At the same time, I have always been drawn to old things. Antiques carry history in a way that few modern items can. A worn table, a blue Ball jar, a chipped crock, or a weathered kitchen tool can tell a story without saying a word. For the past 30 years, I have had antique booths, and that experience has taught me to appreciate not only the beauty of old objects, but also the lives they once served.

To me, collecting and canning have always felt connected. Both are about preservation. One preserves food, flavor, and the fruits of a season. The other preserves craftsmanship, memories, and pieces of everyday life that might otherwise be forgotten. Both invite us to slow down, pay attention, and value what lasts.
There is something special about lining up jars of homemade jam or green beans on a shelf and feeling the same kind of joy as finding a beautiful vintage piece with character and history. In both cases, there is care involved. There is patience. And there is a deep respect for the past.
